About
Hi! My Name is Gavin Hein. I am a 22 year old self taught oil painting artist. I enjoy painting western landscapes and showing people just how beautiful God's creation is. My only education for art was my high school art class and a lot of practice, but I am still learning as I go. My end goal is to make a name for myself and perfect what I'm doing.

I was born and raised in rural Wisconsin, on a small hobby farm. There, I started my art journey. Ever since I was young I was fascinated with weather, and landscapes. At a young age my dad fell ill with a disease that doctors knew very little about, but my dad's symptoms were very severe, involving his head and ears. Any noise caused him to get terrible headaches and feel very dizzy, so a quiet house was very normal. Being a young kid, I had to find something to occupy myself. The farm helped with that problem during the day, but, at night, I took to drawing. I had a fascination with storms, especially tornados and landscapes. In elementary school, I struggled with grades, but my teachers found that if I drew while they were talking, I listened and understood better.
When I was 14, we found a doctor that could perform two brain surgeries on my dad. Both surgeries were a year apart, and they were in California, so we bought a camper and lived on the road for two years. Due to hospital bills, we almost lost everything. While we were living out of friends' basements and one bedroom apartments, we still managed to hold onto the farm. While traveling to and from Wisconsin to California, I discovered the West, and was able to see National Parks and mountainous landscapes .
When we returned, oil painting became a new fascination! I was introduced to oils in my high school art class and I really enjoyed it. I would defiantly say my talent is God-given and I am very proud of it. A lot of my paintings represent the memories of my childhood, living on the road, and traveling to the WEST!
